A delight for bird-watcher, Keoladeo National Park, recognised as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, is a world famous bird sanctuary, where several indigenous bird species and thousands of rare and highly endangered birds including migratory fowl, some from as far away as Siberia, China, Europe, Tibet etc. come every year to rest and breed. And located inside the sanctuary is Hotel Bharatpur Ashok providing a base for those who love nature and is the only hotel to provide opportunity to stay inside the National Park!

The Keoladeo National Park, a botanically rich mosaic of grasslands, woodlands, and wetlands is spread in an area of 29 sq km and provides home to more than 350 bird species, 50 species of fish, 12 species of snakes, 6 species of lizards and 5 turtle species. So cormorant, darter, purple and grey heron, various species of egret, painted, open-billed, white necked and black necked stork, white ibis, spoonbill, night heron and gracious Saras cranes, the tallest flight birds to be communed with! Fauna of Keoladeo National Park also includes blue bull, feral cattle, spotted deer, sambar, wild boar, porcupine, mongoose, jungle cat, fishing cat, jackals and hyenas. 

There are well-defined treks which can be easily covered on foot or on a cycle or you can hire a rickshaw. Rickshaw pullers have been trained by the park management in bird watching and are quite knowledgeable. Boats are also available on hire. A boat trip early in the morning or late evening is quite a rewarding experience. Do not forget to carry a binocular for watching the birds!
